Ocean Mindfulness: Connecting with the Sea and Self

This course invites you to explore the profound connection between humanity and the ocean through the practice of mindfulness.

Participants will learn about the geological history of our oceans, the impact of human activities on marine ecosystems, and the intelligence and awareness of ocean inhabitants. By the end of the course, students will understand the importance of sustainable practices, develop mindfulness techniques to enhance well-being, and gain a deep respect for the ocean and its resources.

The course is designed to be accessible and engaging, providing practical insights and tools for fostering a mindful and sustainable relationship with the sea.

Ocean Mindfulness will help you understand that:

  • the relationship between humanity and the sea is complex and far more interconnected than many people realize.
  • mindfulness is nonjudgmental awareness in the present moment and there are tremendous health benefits to practicing mindfulness on a daily basis.
  • non-human animals exhibit many of the same qualities and characteristics that we associate with human intelligence.
  • humanity depends on the sea and developing sustainable practices is critical to ensuring our quality of life and access to resources.
  • mindfulness in the sea includes informed consumerism, managing anthropogenic impacts, and conservation efforts, and involves nurturing a deep understanding and respect for the ocean and our place in nature.
